Reflection: Thought of the Day

"Good manners will open doors that the best education cannot."

It means to me that if we have a good education but no manners, others will not "open their doors" to you. They would not be willing to help you.

If you have good manners but no educations, people would "open their doors" to you and they will still be willing to teach you and help you if you ask politely.

H1N1

The H1N1 outbreak was dangerous at fist as we did not know how bad it would be. I did not know why it was dangerous, and it was just like common flu.

I later found out that it was dangerous for pragnent, old and young people to get it, and they may die. We almost had an extra one week holiday but they decided not to let us have a extra week of holidays in the end. I do not think they track down the people who have had contact with people who have H1N1 anymore as there are too many.

We now only have to take our temperature twice a week, instead of the original twice a week.

NE show

On Saturday, I went to the national day parade rehearsal.

The parade was interesting and I saw people marching around in smart uniforms carrying flags and guns. They stood in neat rows and marched at the same speed. I do not think I will ever be able to march like that. I think they have gone through a lot of practice to march so smartly.

There were lots of bright and colourful lights for the other performances as well. The performers wore colourful costumes. At the last part of the show, it started raining and everyone got drenched especially the performers.

The fun pack we got had a magazine in it which got wet when it started to rain. The magazine got stuck to the bag and I had a hard time getting it out.

Ancient Greece

Would I like to live in Ancient Greece? I absolutely would not!

Back in Ancient Greece, female were treated badly and were not allowed to vote or own property. They also did not receive education as they did not go to school and they had to stay at home to learn to make cloth and cook.

They were not allowed to own a house and the only way to get to live in one when their father passed away was to live in a male relatives house or to get married and live in the house owned by their husbands.

It was also against the law for women to act and males had to act the female parts of the plays.

Although Ancient Greeks were clever, I would not have liked to live with them!

East Coast Park

During the holidays, my family went to East Coast Park together.

We built sandcastles using special tools bought at the park. They are tools for building walls, stairs, castles and more. It was hot but we had fun.

After playing, we had satay and BBQ chicken wings for dinner. For drinks, we had fresh coconuts. I wonder if the coconuts are from the East Coast Park beach?

Stay At Grandmother's House

During the holidays, I went to stay at my grandmother's house with my sibblings. We stayed there for one night. We arrived at my grandmother's house in the afternoon.

We played there and enjoyed ourselves. We slept in the living room and the next day, my cousins also came. I enjoyed spending time and playing with my cousins and my brother.

I love visiting my grandparents during weekends and I think that people should visit their grandparents often.

Making Kuah Dadar

Have you ever eaten or made Kueh Dadar? Well, I have!

During the school holidays, I made Kueh Dadar with my mother and sister. I was in charge of making the wrap (green in colour), and my sister was in charge of the coconut filling. My mother helped us both.

When we were done, I tried one. I decided that I did not like it, so I did not eat any more.

I like making Kueh Dadar (though I do not like eating it) and I hope to make other treats in the future.

Holiday: Bird Park

I went to Jurong Bird Park on the last week of the holidays. It was when my sister went to school for CCA.

We saw lots of birds and there were penguins, owls, singapore hornbill, toucan and other birds. I liked feeding the lories at the Lory Loft and one even perched on my father's wrist to eat the food!

I also saw a lady with a lory perched on her shoulder! When we fed a lory, it even sang to us! There were a lot of lories flying quite freely around in the enclosed area but i think that the big birds like the hornbills should not be enclosed in the small cages.

I had a very fun day at the bird park but we had to go home early than planned. I hope that we can go back and finish looking at all the birds.

Holidays: Downtown East, Escape Theme Park

At the start of the holidays, I went to Downtown East. The first day we were there, we went to "Escape Theme Park".

At the "Escape Theme Park" we went to the haunted house, "Wet 'n Wild", Go-Kart and other rides. The one I liked most was "Wet 'n Wild". It is a ride where you sit in a 'boat' shaped like a log and ride on a track on water. The main part of the ride is the 15m drop. It was exciting and I liked the suspense.

I had lots of fun at "Escape Theme Park" though the queues were quite long. I hope to revisit it next time.

Holidays: Downtown East, Wild Wild Wet

At the start of the holidays, I went to a Chalet in Downtown East with my family. On the second day there, we went to We stayed there from 10am till 5pm.

I liked the water slides and when we finally went back to the chalet, I realised that my skin was red. I had not put on sunscreen and had got a sunburn. My whole family had got sunburn as well.

I have some advice for the people who go to "Wild Wild Wet". Remember to bring your sunscreen!

My Holidays

This is what I did during the holidays. I went to a chalet in Downtown east, did a bit of homework, went for tution, went for piano lessons and went for classes.

Now that there are two weeks of holidays left, I intend to finish my homework and enjoy My holidays as much as I can.

My Favourite Place

My Favourite Place where I spend most of my time is at home.

I enjoy spending my time at home reading, playing computer games and watching television. My home is also somewhere that I can spend time together with my family.

At home I can also do what I want (as long as it is right) without anyone other than my parents telling me what to do.

At home is somewhere which I can enjoy myself and do my work.

Creativity

I think that creativity is inborn. You must be born creative and not taught to be creative. Some people are born a creative, it is just that they do not know it, and need some time to get it "started up". Others need people to help them, example their art teachers.

I think everyone is born with creativity, more or less. I think it is just the amount of it you have.

Courtesy

I agree that courtesy is lacking in our society and you seldom hear people say thank you, excuse me, sorry...

One example is that in food courts, when it is very crowded, you will go to a table with only one or two people and ask,"Is anyone sitting here? Can I sit here?" Usually, the person sitting at the table would say how many people were sitting there, and would let you sit there (if there was enough space).
But sometimes, when people say that all the seats are occupied, when they are not, it is because that they do not want to sit with others.
I wish people would be more courteous and considerate.

IvP (Inovation) Launch

Last Friday, I went to to NTU for the IvP launch. We (me and my friend who is also in IvP) went to the auditorium. The pupils from previous years came to give a talk on their inventions.

There were also many other people (adults) who talked about things. There was a man gave a talk on 'Why Birds and Bees can Fly'. he talked about what are the main things you need to build an aeroplane and that you had to use light materials.

I enjoyed the IvP Launch very much.

P5 camp

On Wednesday, 11 Feb, I went to P5 camp with my school. My friend was in my group. My favourite activity was the abseiling.

The food was not that bad although it was not as good as what we usually eat. I had to sleep on the floor (it was sandy) as there was no space on the bunk. I do not usually sleep with air-conditioner so it does not bother me that there was only fan. Anyway, the weather was fairly cool.

I have learnt lots from the camp!

My hobbies

My favourite hobbie is reading. I read both fiction and non-fiction.

For non-fiction, I like to read about mysterious encounters eg. Bigfoot, Aliens, Abominable Snowman etc.

As for fiction, I like almost anything!

There are also other things I like to do too. They are origami and cycling.

Children under pressure

I think that some children are experiencing too much pressure. Most children are stressed because their parents and teachers expect them to have good grades.

I think some children are working too hard and do not know how to relax. We have to work hard but we must not over work.

Though I am not stressed or under pressure, some children are. I think teachers and parents should not give students too much pressure.
